An ode to my favorite pair of…jeans.

Friday, August 25th, 2006

Ginch Gonch Jolly Cocks BriefsOh what has happened to us? Where has the time gone? I remember when we first met; it wasn’t like your usual romance, at first we just didn’t fit. I do believe that I liked you more than you liked me.

But I was persistent, I worked hard every day to get your attention. I so wanted us to work out. And then one day, you agreed!

Since then we have traveled the world together, gotten in a lot of trouble together, and just vegged with friends together. How often do you find a pair of jeans that you can take anywhere?

Imagine my horror this morning when I took you out of the dryer and noticed the huge hole right in the ass. What am I to do? It’s too big to be repaired, but you are just too good a friend to let go for just one flaw. I know I need to keep going with you and just accept that as you get older, you will start having more problems.

I know how I am going to get through this, I know *just* the bandage that will help us keep going! Ginch Gonch underwear!

This will be so fun! And everyone will look at us and say, “Wow, look at those amazing jeans and look! How colorful!” We’ll be starting a new trend! Perhaps I will even help you create a new hole on the other side.

See, here’s the plan, I’ll put on a pair of Ginch Gonch briefs like these here Jolly Cocks (best name ever). The patterns will show through the warn hole as if it were a patch. There are so many choices, that I can even coordinate the underwear with the shirt I’m wearing!

That’s it, it’s decided. That’s what I will do. I will add colorful underwear and show you off. I bet we get more attention than ever!

Do you guys ever have this problem? A favorite pair of jeans you want to save? How have you done it? This method actually looks really good…after I get in the office and get some reactions, I’ll post an update.

Hole-Y Underwear

Wednesday, August 23rd, 2006

Baskit Ventilated TrunkI love getting questions from people about material, styles, fabric, or whatever. Yesterday I had a question about mesh. The question was a little generic, so I thought I would just touch on the basics of mesh here.

When talking about fabrics that are mesh, we are actually talking about fabric that is designed with manufactured holes. That doesn’t mean that the material is made and then some jumbo mesh machine goes through and pokes holes in the fabric, but rather the fabric is woven or constructed with holes spaces a certain distance apart.

Some mesh can be very fine, so it almost looks like a regular fabric. This type of mesh has a couple advantages, it breathes well like most mesh, but it is also so fine a mesh that it isn’t necessarily see through. This /baskit/ brief has a mesh pouch that I am very fond of.

Then some mesh, like greek mesh, is constructed with very large holes. Again, breathable, but also very see through. Very see through. It has a great look, and if you really want to show off your body, all of your body, then this type of mesh is really amazing. This greek mesh bikini from Go Softwear is amazingly soft too.

The last bit of mesh I would like to talk about is fine mesh. Very fine. Like this Ui Miami Jock slash Posing Strap is made of a very fine Nylon mesh, so the holes are very close together, but the weave between the holes is made of very fine material. The end result is a see through mesh, sometimes. If you look at it in the light a certain way, it leaves nothing to the imagination, look at it a different way and you can see right through it. This is great for dancers or anyone else who wants to do that sexy little dance.

Mesh can also be a fun fabric to use as part of larger pair of underwear. Check out the image at the top of this post, that’s that /baskit/ Ventilated Trunk. Sexy trunk body with an amazing splash of mesh across the side. Seriously hot.

If you haven’t tried mesh out yet, you should. Take a stab, find a mesh you think will work for you, and have fun!

Age Old Question

Friday, August 18th, 2006

Hey everyone! It’s Friday and I couldn’t be happier…it’s been a busy busy week this week and I, for one, am ready for some rest. Well, rest and a huge birthday party for a good friend tomorrow.

So before we sign out for the week, I would like to ask you to test something out for us. We will have a new feature here on the blog starting Monday, and we will need your help to pull it off.

Sorry, it’s a big, awesome surprise so I can’t tell you, but I can tell you we need to test to make sure our new polls feature works before we kick this off.

If you would be so kind, please take our poll over here on the right (or in this post).

Thanks, and I’ll see you back here Monday morning for a very exciting announcement. Well, at least *I* think it’s very exciting!  So here we go, boxers or briefs?

How to keep cool in the summer

Thursday, August 17th, 2006

SunglassesHere we are in the summer, and I don’t know about where you are, but where we are it is still damn hot. YP HQ was at a baseball game yesterday and when the group of us got back to the car, I am pretty sure we all left some melted skin behind us.

That got me to thinking, what is the best kind of underwear to wear in hot weather, or whenever you know you are going to get hot and sweaty?

Some people insist that keeping cool means having more breathing room…these same people insist on boxers during hot weather. Even within this group there are differing opinions, some believe that just wearing boxers is fine, some insist on silk or chartreuse boxers. Others believe that light weight cotton boxers are fine.

Other people insist on wearing mesh because it is more breathable.

But for me, although I agree that I don’t want thick cotton pressed against my private bits when the temperature is rising, I think the most important thing is the material, not necessarily the cut, that makes the biggest difference.

So for that hot hot heat (an awesome band, by the way), I look for microfiber.

Just what is microfiber? Believe it or not, we are asked that question often.

Microfiber is not just one thing…it’s really a description of a group of different threads that have the same qualities. To name a few:

  • They are the thinnest fibers around, thinner than silk, thinner than human hair.
  • When woven together, they hold their shape better than most other fabrics.
  • With a super soft and very natural feel, they also drape very naturally.
  • Because of the way the fibers are constructed, microfibers wick moisture away from the body!

This last point is the most important for surviving the heat and the reason a lot of new athletic wear is made from microfiber. The moisture leaves your skin, which is much like jumping out of the pool and then feeling the coolness of the water evaporating. Then, when wind blows against the material, the moisture cools, which makes the material cooler to the touch.

Microfiber looks great on, feels amazing to the touch, and stays cool when you are hot/stressing/being active. For me, that makes it the perfect summer time fabric.

Check out some of my favorite micorfiber items:

JM Skinz Low - Rise Pouch Boxer
JM Skinz Pouch Boxer
JM Red Line Pouch Boxer

Some cooler boxers:

C-IN2 Runner Boxer
/Baskit/ Ultimate Boxer
2(x)ist Button Fly Boxer

Our Own, Personal Reinvention Tour

Monday, August 14th, 2006

Lightbulb for great ideasWell OK, maybe not really a tour.  More like a project.  And maybe not reinvention, maybe more like evolution.  Let me explain.

When we first started this blog our intention was to provide a medium for us to let you know what was going on with the company, to answer basic customer questions, to address any public concerns, to tell you what’s hot in underwear fashions, and to try to connect with you, dear reader.

Skip back to the beginning of June; several super secret projects kicked off here and I was consumed by them for a while.  No readers mentioned missing the blog.  No one left any comments.  It was like no on noticed the blog was inactive.  What happened to our readers?  That’s when I began to shift more of my attention to other projects.

Now jump with me to earlier last week.  One of our web guys pointed out that our blog was getting traffic.  Like a lot of traffic.  Like heaps of traffic.  So we started looking into what people were searching for when they found the blog.

Turns out you guys are reading, and you are looking for a few things.  According to this what we found last week, you are looking for:

  • Honest, open discussions of men’s underwear.  And I mean open and honest.
  • You are looking for reviews of underwear beyond just, “this feels nice” and more into the realm of, “this makes my balls sweat.”
  • You are looking for other resources about men’s underwear
  • And, ok, some of you are looking for pictures

Now I don’t think that is all that far from what I had been writing about, but after really looking at the questions asked, it looks like I need to get a little more up close and personal and make sure that I share any new underwear resources I find with you.

I had been working on some ideas to get started and like the threads of fate just did their thing, I received an email late last week with someone asking us to do just what I outlined above, and he even suggested some things he would like to know about.

That’s what I’m talking about…that’s what we are looking for.  Good, old fashioned reader interaction.  (BTW,thanks for the email, it really helped solidify our beliefs about the blog.)

Now here we are, a brand new week.  Keep checking back because I’m back baby, and ready to go.

Now send in those questions (you can email them to me at blog at yourprivates, com) and let’s get going.  Jump in with comments and let’s all have fun!

PS - Keep an eye out for other changes as well…if you’ve been to the site before, you probably noticed a slight change in the look.  Trust me, that’s just the beginning.
